Rep. Sykes: We Need Real, Bipartisan Solutions To Secure Our Border, Not Partisan Political Stunts
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) voted against H.Res. 957, House Republican legislation that does nothing substantive to address the situation at the southern border.
“Republicans and Democrats alike can agree — Congress must take action to address ongoing challenges at our southern border. Unfortunately, H.Res. 957 is nothing but a partisan political stunt that contains no meaningful solutions to improve border security or streamline the immigration process,” said Rep. Sykes. “We should instead spend our energy on bipartisan policies like the Dignity Act, which would secure our border and ensure a humane and orderly immigration process. I urge House Republicans to put politics aside and work across the aisle to pass comprehensive immigration reform and enhance border security to keep our communities safe.”
The bipartisan Dignity Act would address border security and infrastructure, create legal status for undocumented immigrants already living in the United States with the possibility of earning citizenship, establish new pathways for asylum seekers, and create new legal pathways for economic migrants and unaccompanied minors.
